Take a website off the internet or delete it

In “Online” there are two actions:

  • “Take down”, under “On the internet”: the website goes offline. It stays safe on your computer.
  • “Remove from this computer”, under “On this computer”: the website leaves your computer.

To delete a website completely, do both: first take it off the internet, then remove it from your computer.

  1. Open “Online” and go to “Take down”.
  2. Press “Take it off the internet”.
  3. Read “This is what goes:”. Its free address stops answering. Its published versions go. Your domain is released. On a free website: “Its place among your websites is freed.”
  4. Type the name of the website to confirm.
  5. Press “Take it off the internet”.

The website stays safe on your computer. You can publish it again whenever you like.

When you take a website with a subscription off the internet, you see “Also cancel its subscription”. It is ticked.

  • Ticked: its subscription is cancelled. It stays until the end of the period already paid. If you publish it again before then, it simply carries on.
  • Not ticked: its subscription carries on and renews, ready for when you publish it again.
  1. Open “Online” and go to “Remove from this computer”.
  2. Press “Remove from this computer”.

What happens depends on where the website is:

  • It is on the internet. It stays on the internet and in your account. You can bring it back from “Websites” whenever you like.
  • It is only on this computer. Tsurito says “This site is only here, and there is no way to get it back.” Type the name of the website to confirm. It is then deleted for good.

A website with an active subscription cannot be deleted. Tsurito says “This website has a monthly subscription, so its subscription needs to be cancelled before we can remove it.” Cancel its subscription first. Then you can remove it whenever you like. Read Cancel, reactivate or manage your subscription.

When you delete a website whose subscription is cancelled, nothing more is charged for it. The only exception is extra page views it has already had. They are charged when its subscription ends. Nothing is refunded, except under the 14-day right of withdrawal.

Before you delete anything, you can keep a copy. Read Download a copy of your account.
