Placeholder pictures
Section titled “Placeholder pictures”A new website comes with placeholder pictures in the colours of its design. They have no text and no brand. They are there to be replaced with your own photos.
Replace a picture in the visual editor
Section titled “Replace a picture in the visual editor”- Open your website and choose “Edit”.
- Click on the picture you want to change, or find its field in the form.
- Choose a new image from your computer.
- Save your change.
Ask your assistant
Section titled “Ask your assistant”You can also press “Add photos” in “Tasks”. To give your assistant your own photos, press the + button beside the box, choose “Files and folders from this computer” and pick them. Then say which photo goes where.
Describe each picture
Section titled “Describe each picture”Every picture has a short description for people who cannot see it and for search engines. For example: “Our shop window with the Christmas cakes.” Your assistant writes it for you. You can change it in the visual editor.
Good photos
Section titled “Good photos”- Use wide photos for the large pictures at the top of a page.
- Use square photos for cards and galleries.
- Use tall photos for pictures of people.
- A photo does not need to be wider than 2,000 pixels. Bigger photos only make the page slower.
- Use JPEG or WebP for photos.
- Use only photos you have the right to use.
Pictures live on your website
Section titled “Pictures live on your website”Every picture is part of your website. A picture cannot come from another website by its address. If you want a picture from somewhere else, save it on your computer first, and only if you have the right to use it.
Your free websites share 500 MB of space. A website with a subscription has 2 GB of its own. Photos use most of this space. You can see how much you use in “Online”, under “This month”.
Your logo
Section titled “Your logo”Your logo is set in “Edit”, “Look”. Read Change it yourself, in Edit.
